2016 MRW Exhibition entries now open

2016 Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition entries are now open.

This year the exhibition judging and dinner will be held at:

  • The Macedon Wine Room: 652 Black Forest Dr, Macedon

Please mark in your calendars the following dates:

  • Entries close: Monday 26th September
  • Exhibits due: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday 27th – 29th September
  • Exhibition judging: Monday 3rd October
  • Exhibitor tasting with the judges: Monday 3rd October
  • Exhibition Gala dinner: Friday 7th October

Based on the growing number of entries over the past few years, this year’s judging will be broken down into more categories. Entry classes for the judging are:

Whites

  • Sparkling Wine (any vintage)
  • Other white varieties and blends (any vintage)
  • Chardonnay (2015 vintage)
  • Chardonnay (2014 and older vintages)
  • Sweet whites (any vintage)

Reds

  • Rose (any vintage)
  • Pinot Noir (2015 vintage)
  • Pinot Noir (2014 and older vintages)
  • Shiraz (any vintage)
  • Other red varieties and blends (any vintage)

Judging will be based on a 100 point scale:

  • Bronze award 85-89 points
  • Silver award 90-94 points
  • Gold award 95-100 points

All classes are open for competition to all vignerons and wine makers who are members of the MRVA.

Each wine entered must be made from at least 85% Macedon Ranges grapes.

Gala Dinner: Friday 7th October

The top 3 wines (based on judges scores) of the following categories will be presented at the Gala Dinner and the top wine (based on judges scores) will be presented with the category Trophy for the “Best Wine of the Category”.

  • Sparkling Wine (any vintage)
  • Other white varieties and blends (any vintage)
  • Chardonnay (any vintage)
  • Pinot Noir (any vintage)
  • Other reds or blends (any vintage)
  • Shiraz (any vintage)

Other awards presented at the Gala dinner:

  • The Laurie Williams Trophy: Judges’ Choice for the “Best wine of the show”
  • The Gordon Knight Trophy: Awarded to the “Best winery of the show” judged by the overall average of score for the top three wines from each winery (that submits at least 3 wines for judging)
  • The People’s Choice Trophy:  People’s choice for the “Best Wine of the Exhibition” as decided by those attending the evening
