About Us
Ellender Estate is a boutique vineyard and winery located at Glenlyon, near Daylesford, in one of Victoria's most stunning rural environments. The first planting of Pinot Noir began in 1996, followed by Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris grapes.
The philosophy of winemaker, Graham Ellender, encompasses traditional principles and techniques tempered with science, technology and at times black magic. The traditional basket press finds an honourable position in the winemaking as do oak barrels and hand bottling. Visitors to cellar door are greeted by Lara, Red and Nelle, the very friendly chocolate Labradors.
The cellar has a cosy wood heater to keep you warm in winter or on warmer days, relax in the pavilion overlooking the lake and stunning rock art feature. Visitors are invited to enjoy rustic regional food from the wood-fired oven.
Seasonal regional produce platters with freshly baked bread from the wood fired oven, and wood fired pizzas. The Alan Scott designed wood fired oven is a feature of the outdoor area. Special events are held throughout the year with Guest Chefs or learn how to make Sour Dough Bread in a wood-fired oven.
Events
- Indulge your wine senses: Some of the myths of wine appreciation are challenged and explained. During the session participants undertake various exercises to challenge their individual wine senses - tactile, colour, aromas, taste and even sound. The programme is flexible to allow for various levels of wine understanding. Booking required.
- Special events, weddings, lunches and dinners can be arranged for up to 50 people.
- Cellar door facilities are available for private or corporate functions.
Featured Wines
- Estate grown and produced Chardonnay: Chardonnay made in a Chablis style, the wine exhibits lovely cool aromas of nectarine, grapefruit and complex character. The light to medium bodied palate is refined with lovely nutty richness and fine acidity playing a backdrop to the cool citrus fruits.
- Estate grown and produced Pinot Noir: reflects the ultracool climate of the vineyard, cool nights and warm days. Three clones are grown and wine produced in traditional manner - cold soaking, pigeage, basket pressing, barrel élevage and without filtering. Pinot produces elegant table wines and delicate Rosé.
