About Us

Mount Charlie is a small boutique winery specializing in making a limited amount of high quality wines. Vines were first plated in 1987 and the first chardonnay was made in 1991. The vineyard is situated on the southern side of Mount Charlie, one of the  mountains that make up the Macedon spur. While on the southern side it is on a small knoll and faces north east. It is protected from the cold southerly and south westerly wines. It has a unique microclimate being above the frost line but below the fog line.

The location means that it ripens grapes 2 to 3 weeks before most of the vineyards in the Macedon ranges. The vineyard has a day night temperature variation in summer of about 15 C. This allows full ripening of the grapes with retention of acid  leading to complex wines. There is a small winery on site and all aspects apart from bottling are done on site.

The location is picturesque with views to the Dandenongs and other ranges and views of the city at night. There is a pleasant outdoor tasting deck in summer together with an air conditioned room for the very hot days. There is a pleasant fire in winter.

Approximately 100 cases of each wine is made. The wine is sold my mail order to members of the wine club at a considerable discount. The wine is also available at local restaurants and at cellar door. The winery is open most Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays,  but ring first to check that I am there. We look forward to seeing you at the winery.
